Question about wedding balloons falling from the ceiling?

Can you answer Reese g’s question about Balloons?:

My fiancee and I are getting married and we’re going to be doing it outside in a large gazebo type thing. We want to have the whole falling balloons thing right after we say “I Do” our guestlist is small and we’re doing everything ourselves. We were wondering how would we make the balloons fall from the ceiling of the gazebo? Please keep it low tech.
Btw I didn’t ask for opinons, so please either answer the actual question or don’t answer at all. Thank you.
The gazebo will be at a lake, its a public outdoor gazebo, doesn’t belong to anyone.

Feedback: that’s bad for the envoronment - I would only do it if your ceremony is completely indoors for easy cleanup and disposal.

Feedback: First tie them to the gazebo the night before and have a string that can release the ballons hang by where you and the fiance are getting married and when the last “I do” is said pull the string.

Feedback: You need to get netting and use a pretty low grade tape like masking tape. the baloons go in the center then you get several helpers and secure the net. Attach some sort of pull like a rope to one corner and have someone in charge of pulling it.

This type of thing is going to be really hard to make look good, especially in something like a gazebo where it is all open.

Feedback: Tie a net to the posts of the gazebo. Try a couple of things before the big day so you know what will work and what clean up it will entail. ou can buy special balloon releasing bags, it’s just thena metter of securing it on the gazebo. YOu may ask at a party store? Where is this gazebo? You may ask the owner their thoughts…

Feedback: Before releasing balloons outdoors near a lake, please read the following from the Michigan Environmental Council:

“In one morning last September during the Lake Michigan Federation’s annual Adopt-a-Beach cleanup, volunteers picked up over 4,500 balloons from shoreline areas all over Michigan, the fourth most common item found during the one-day event. Balloons and strings in the water and on shorelines threaten wildlife. Birds mistake them for food and eat them or become tangled in their ribbons and are unable to get free. Fish have been known to mistake the floating balloons for food, eat them and starve because the balloon makes them feel full and stop eating.”

Feedback: Taylor, ps and soy have already made the suggestions I would have. As it’s a gazebo, unless you can get it up relatively high in the ceiling they will be noticeable while you are getting married and could be distracting to some people.

Feedback: Hi and congratulations! An outdoor ceremony sounds beautiful!

I must agree with Indy. ps and soy gave you the idea. That is the only way to do it…..you can buy a fishing net at a sporting goods store. But…..are you sure you want to do that? After the “I do’s” there is still the exchange of vows and then the rings…..at least at all the weddings I go to! The “I do” is just the “statement of intention”, there is still more of the ceremony after that. Anyway, I think that would junk up an otherwise beautiful setting and ceremony. And, are you sure your minister/justice of the peace/judge is on board with that?

Have you thought of afterwards perhaps doing the release of butterflies. Look up online…..there are lots of places where you can get butterflies and then have your guests release them.

Sorry, but I just had to put in my two-cents!

Feedback: You would have to put them in a net and have someone release them. You could put up a couple of nets that release with a string.
